In 1989 PADI introduced Project AWARE
(Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education) responding
to a growing demand to create a unified voice to preserve the
world’s aquatic
environments.
Since its inception, the programme has helped to propagate environmentally
sound, safe diving practices and has funded a diverse range of
initiatives from shark conservation to sea turtle protection,
beach cleanups, public education and much more.

Marine Conservation Society
Life around Scotland and Britain’s
coast is as colourful and fascinating as that found anywhere
in the world yet it is under intense pressure from over-fishing,
habitat destruction and pollution including litter.
The Marine Conservation Society (MCS)
is the UK’s leading
charity dedicated to the protection of the marine environment
and its wildlife. Established in 1977, Underwater Conservation
year, by divers for divers, MCS has worked successfully to highlight
issues of concern to divers and threats to marine wildlife and
habitats.
If you’re interested in helping
clean our local waters or undertake a beach clean up exercise
along the Firth of Forth, contact Mark at the Dive Bunker.
Alternatively, if you’re not a local diver, why don’t
you organise an event in your area. For further information and
to get involved today in making a difference contact the MCS at www.mcsuk.mcmail.com or
Tel. 01989 566017.
