The Anlaby
The Anlaby was a British steamer that ran aground
in 1873 while traveling through thick fog - she was carrying coal
at the time.
She lies close in to the rocks at Altarstanes
Landing on May Island. The largest part of her is the rudder section
and cast propeller lying in 16m depth, the rest of the well broken
wreck lies bow to the shore ending up in about 8m.
There is very little current on the wreck so
it makes an easy dive for all, with a large selection of resident
wrasse, large shoals of Pollack and the occasional Octopus it
makes for a rewarding dive. Average visibility is 7m+ however
best can go to 15m.
